Training and cafe stops....

Between us we've cycled over 6000 miles in training since January. Every weekend, mostly Saturdays, and in all weathers (except the February snow) we have generally cycled to Knutsford to meet (about 12 miles for each of us) then have set off together to either cycle around the lanes of the Cheshire Plain, or, to challenge ourselves and get in some hill training, in the Peak District. By the end of January we were up to 50 miles and by June we were regularly doing 75 to 85 miles, with some days up to almost 100 miles. June was the best month for both of us as we each cycled a total of over 800 miles. Work got in the way after that (and the weather!) but the miles were in the bank by then so we weren't worried. In between the long runs we'd both do our own thing - cycling to work or getting out in the evenings and on Sundays. Our training wasn't really planned, we just knew we needed 'time in the saddle' (with its associated agonies early on for both of us....) and we also knew we needed to build up the miles. Both of us have been amazed about what we've achieved, and what we're about to set off and achieve... Our 'long runs' have of course included cafe stops (some of the pics). The weather has been mixed so we're ready for whatever weather the trip will throw at us. And ready for numerous cafe stops along the way...

Still time to sponsor us..

If you're not already aware what this is all about, on Sunday 5th August my friend Sharon and I will set off and cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats.  This is a fully supported two week holiday (yes, holiday!) of about 1,000 miles.  We are not doing the trip for charity, although a lot of people have offered to sponsor us for this trip.  We have however entered a charity event on our return – the Manchester 100 Bike Ride on Sunday 2nd September 2012.  This 100 mile bike ride is helping to raise funds for The Christie charity.  We’d appreciate any offers of sponsorship to go to this charity.  We both have friends and family we have lost to cancer, so please support us if you are able.  I’ve attached a link to our Just Giving page.

Thanks for your support,
Sue and Sharon

Trivia

Trivial indeed. As a lady of leisure (now it's the school holidays) I had a pedicure this morning. Those toes need to look their best cooped up in my stinky cycling shoes all day don't they?? There's a funny story about my stinky shoes.... Cycled to school recently and got changed in the female staff toilet. Left my clothes airing on the radiator and my shoes on the floor underneath the rad. At the end of the day came back to get changed and found the cleaners discussing the letter they'd had from the school business manager telling them that the toilet needed a deep clean as it smelled like a urinal..  I fessed up to the school business manager later.  Sorry girls!
