Training and cafe stops....

Between us we've cycled over 6000 miles in training since January. Every weekend, mostly Saturdays, and in all weathers (except the February snow) we have generally cycled to Knutsford to meet (about 12 miles for each of us) then have set off together to either cycle around the lanes of the Cheshire Plain, or, to challenge ourselves and get in some hill training, in the Peak District. By the end of January we were up to 50 miles and by June we were regularly doing 75 to 85 miles, with some days up to almost 100 miles. June was the best month for both of us as we each cycled a total of over 800 miles. Work got in the way after that (and the weather!) but the miles were in the bank by then so we weren't worried. In between the long runs we'd both do our own thing - cycling to work or getting out in the evenings and on Sundays. Our training wasn't really planned, we just knew we needed 'time in the saddle' (with its associated agonies early on for both of us....) and we also knew we needed to build up the miles. Both of us have been amazed about what we've achieved, and what we're about to set off and achieve... Our 'long runs' have of course included cafe stops (some of the pics). The weather has been mixed so we're ready for whatever weather the trip will throw at us. And ready for numerous cafe stops along the way...

Isn't tea and cake why we cycle?
